The moon in Terraria moves through a cycle of 8 different phases, with the next stage in the cycle actualization each night. The electric current phase is indicated by the amount of the moon that is visible during the dark. The phase of the moon affects many things, some beingness the shop inventory of sure NPCs, sure enemy spawn rates, and the actor's Fishing Power.

Information technology takes eight in-game nights for the moon to move through all of its phases. The cycle begins with the full moon upon world creation, where the entire circular moon is visible, and iv nights later, after three waning phases, reaches the new moon, where no moon is visible. Another iv nights after, afterwards three waxing phases, the bicycle ends with the return of the full moon.

Each moon phase starts at dawn[1] (iv:xxxAM) and lasts until the next dawn. Therefore, a moon phase also encompasses the day preceding the night of that moon phase. This is important because most phase-dependent content and effects are not limited to nighttime.

The current moon phase tin be determined using the Sextant, an informational accessory which tin can exist obtained from the Angler NPC equally a angling quest reward, or any of its upgrades.

A Blood Moon tin occur during whatsoever moon stage except for a new moon. A Pumpkin Moon or Frost Moon can exist summoned by the role player on whatsoever night.

Phase-dependent content

The following tabular array details items and occurrences that depend on particular moon phases. It refers to both the twenty-four hour period and the night of the stated moon stage, unless not applicative or noted otherwise.
